Well, it probably was the brainstorm of a marketing or advertising agency that realized that when people misspelled Geico Insurance they did so by typing Gieco, Geco or perhaps Gecko - ah ha. Why not take this slimy lizard and turn into a cute adorable mascot and capture these errors and sell a lot of car insurance.
But the problem for Geico Insurance is that when push comes to shove most consumers do evaluate and compare and are much smarter in the long run.. For the short term, Geico gets a real boost in visibility and probably is able to use the Gecko-Geico name to sell more car insurance. In the long run, however, the quality of the car insurance provider will show through. And this in my opinion will hurt Geico Insurance in the overall picture.
For several years we had Geico for our auto insurance. Car insurance with Geico seemed to be reasonably priced until the rates kept going up and then I got charged for payments that were not made in a previous year. I would ask you, how many insurance company's including Geicko would provide someone with free car insurance in advance? When confronted they claimed it was an accounting error and stupid me, I finally paid and continued my insurance with them. This year,once again, Geico Insurance must of had an accounting error as they charged me for a time period that I wasn't even insured with them. Guess Geico once again was being charitable assuming that I wanted continued coverage and then providing insurance with out payment. Yeah right! Fooled once Geico Insurance oh well, fooled twice shame on you, fooled three times - Shame on me. Well, not letting them get to the third time!
There are a lot of good car Insurance companies out there, so don't settle for a company that stoups to using misspellings, lizards and incredibly stupid commercial to sell car insurance.
If in the future, if you are involved in a automobile accident, hopefully the slimy little lizard won't be the one that answers the call. With any luck you will be insured by a good, reputable auto insurance company that will respond to your needs. Say NO to slimy Insurance.
